About

I am an educational consultant providing assessment and testing services for children with suspected learning problems and difficulties. I came to Kenya in 2002 to work for Kenya Community Centre for Learning- one of Kenya’s first schools for children with mild to severe learning disabilities. At this time, there were few qualified professionals who could offer diagnostics for children who are struggling to cope in mainstream schools. It was apparent then, as it is now, that there needs to be more awareness and acceptance of children with learning problems as well as solutions to help these children reach their full potential.

With Bachelors degrees in Psychology and Rhetoric from UC Berkeley (USA), I have always had an interest in helping children who struggle to learn in conventional settings and have worked as a private tutor for children with an array of learning problems, as well as a preschool teacher. I have a Masters of Science in Education- Special Education with an International Perspective- from Hofstra University (USA) and am qualified with the British Psychological Association with a Certificate of Psychometric Testing, Assessment and Access Arrangements. I am also a member of the Kenya Psychological Association and have a Diploma in Educational Psychology. My goal is to work with parents, students and teachers together to identify each child’s potential and a path to achieve this. Using widely recognised psychometric tests and assessments in a structured and deliberate manner, my goal is to help each child overcome their difficulties using multi-modal strategies and techniques.

I aim to work with the child first to best understand them by creating a relaxed and enjoyable assessment session. I then work with parents and teachers to create a team-based approach to integrating solutions, coping mechanisms and strategies to allow each learner to thrive.

It is a lonely existence to be a child with a disability which no one can see or understand. You exasperate your teachers, you disappoint your parents, and worst of all you know that you are not just stupid.
